My Emma Knutson, my g.grandmother, according to census records, was born in September 1858 in Norway. In the 1900 Barron County Census record, she had been in this country 15 years, making her year of immigration of 1885.
She is listed as the mother of 9 children in that census, with 7 living , but only six are listed. Both of her parents were born in Norway also.
her marriage record states that she married in 1891 to Bern SWANSON (his second marriage).Same record also states that her father was Knut NELSON and Mary Ann JOHNSON.
As far as the family changing their name, they obviously were still using the old naming patterson.Knut was probably the son of NElS somebody or other!
Do we match?
I know that Bern had family in MN from his first marriage. My grandmother always told her kids that her mother, Emma, died when she was 14, which would make it 1909, since she was born in 1895.Apparently Bern left WI after that.
Also still trying to find him in MN.
