Nicholas Randall Knutson was born on March 14, 1991, in Worthington, Minnesota to Randy and Heather Hegstad Knutson. He grew up and attended grade school in Wood Lake, Minnesota until the second grade. They then moved to Montevideo and in 2002, they moved to Slayton, Minnesota where he attended Murray County Central School. In 2005, the family moved to a acreage east of Dovray, Minnesota. Nick then attended Westbrook and had just finished the ninth grade. Nick participated in football, basketball, band, choir and golf. Nick passed away as the result of an accident on June 21, 2006, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN at the age of 15. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook, Minnesota. Nick enjoyed golfing, playing football and basketball, fishing, watching ESPN, babysitting his cousins and spending time with his friends and family.
Survivors include his mother Heather and his step-father Allan Huset, Westbrook, MN; his father Randy Knutson and Jill Reigstad, Willmar, MN; three brothers: Sam, Alex and Rudy Knutson all of Westbrook, MN; one step-sister Lauren Huset; his maternal grandparents Leon and Marlys Hegstad, Slayton, MN; paternal grandparents Bob and Rita Knutson, Granite Falls, MN, maternal great-grandparents, Marie Muck, Slayton, MN; paternal great-grandmother Fern Avoles, Little Canada, MN; step-grandma Evelyn Huset; several aunts, uncles other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Orville Muck, paternal great-grandfather Anthony Walter Avoles, maternal great- grandparents, Olaf and Lillian Hegstad, paternal great-grandparents, Gothard and Alma Knutson, and step-grandfather, Orville Huset.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook, MN on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Bill Klavetter officiating. The organist was Tasha Nelson. The soloist was Nikky Cheskie. The pallbearers were Perry Hegstad, Todd Hegstad, Brett Hegstad, Keith Leverton, Butch Olson and Matt Jackels. Interment at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery Dovray, MN. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton in charge of arrangements
