"Delpha Widboom was born on May 21, 1921, on a farm east of Hadley, Minnesota to Jonathon and Viola Kadolph Knutson. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Slayton High School in 1938. Following high school Delpha attended Calhoun Business College in Minneapolis, Minnesota graduating in 1940. She then returned to Slayton and worked as a bookkeeper at the Slayton Coop until her marriage. On June 8, 1948, she and Clifford Widboom were married in Hadley, Minnesota. Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton, Minnesota and raised their three children. Clifford passed away on October 31, 1990. Delpha remained in their home in Slayton. Delpha passed away on July 17, 2007, at the Sanford Health Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 86. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Delpha also was a member of the Slayton VFW Auxiliary. In her younger days she was a Boy Scout leader, Girl Scout leader and active with the Community Chest. Delpha enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, crocheting, baking, Wednesday lunch at the Pizza Ranch and coffee time with family and friends. Before she lost her eyesight she loved playing bridge. Her family was always her number one priority.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses: Jon and Sue Widboom, Carmel, IN; Margy and Tom Rogers, Webb Lake, WI; and Susie and Chuck Blackmer, Slayton, three grandchildren: Teresa and her husband Chad Thuet; Jennifer Blackmer and Jonathon Blackmer; two great-grandchildren: Carson and Emily Thuet; one sister Beverly and her husband Dr. B. M. Stevenson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford; and one grandson Travis Rogers; three brothers: Byron, Glen, and Charles Knutson.
Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Friday, July 20, 2007, at 2:00 p.m, with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating. The organist was LaDean Lang with special music by Heidi Winter. The pallbearers were Larry Hafner, Chris Thompson, Glenn Kluis, Dale Bergman, Fred Widboom, and John Widboom. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN. Totzke Funeral Home in charge of arrangements."
