Hi Carla,

Been researching the Cogar/Koger family for 30 plus years. Have put a lot of legwork into the research. To set the record straight, we are not descended from the Hans Jacob Koger family. Our W. Va. Cogar line, even though we have used that name, lo these many years, are actually descended from Maria Elisabetha Wilheit Koger who was the widow of John Nicholas Koger. Nicholas was a brother to Hans Jacob Koger.

Our ancestor Peter Coger, b. Sept. 17, 1753, married Mary McElwain, d/o Thomas and Nancy, was born and reared in Rockingham County, VA. Peter was born after the death of John Nicholas Koger and reared in the household of Godfrey Hambleton. He, his brother Jacob, his sister Catherine, and his son William were all named in Hambleton's will. I have no proof that Hambleton was Peter's father, but I feel sure that he was.

I am a double descendant of the Cogar family, through two sons of Peter and Mary Coger. Jacob who married Margaret Mollohan, and Benjamin who married Mary Hosey.

On page 127 in the Heritage of Braxton County, W. Va., 1995, you will find information on the Cogar family which I submitted. Everything is well documented.

If you will look at a copy of the Heritage of Webster County, W. Va., 1994, you will find information on the Hamrick, Fisher, Bender, Cogar/Coger families, etc.

These families have been researched for years and are also well documented.

Are you a descendant of the Abner and Margaret Hamrick Cogar family? I know that their children were taken to Illinois after Abner and Margaret's death. Abner was a brother to my g.grandfather Tubal Cain Cogar.

Dee Cogar Bright
