Robin,

The wife of Adam Mueller/Miller was not a Koger. She was Anna Barbara Wilhuet, the sister of Maria Elisabetha Wilhuet, wife of John Nicholas Koger/Coger.

The Koger book is incorrect, not only about Barbara Wilhuet Miller's identity, but about the parents of my ancestor Peter Coger. Peter was the illegitimate son of Maria Elisabetha Wilhuet Koger, born after the death of John Nicholas Koger. She is named as the mother of Peter in the family Bible of Jacob and Margaret (Mollohan) Coger. Jacob was the son of Peter Coger.

The former genealogists have confused our line of Cogers with the family of Hans Jacob Koger, brother of John Nicholas Koger. The Peter Koger in the South Carolina records was of that lineage. Somewhere along the line someone decided that our Peter Coger was directly related to Hans Jacob Koger. Not so. My ancestor Peter Coger and his half-brothers and sisters, who were the nephews and nieces of Hans Jacob, were in Rockingham County, Va. at the same time that Hans Jacob was in Halifax Co., Va., and the other Peter Koger started appearing on the S. C. records.

The records were not researched previously as thoroughly as they should have been.

Dee Cogar Bright
