Jacob Koger must be the son of Nanning Jacobs Kooger (sometimes spelled with single or double o) and has been born the second of december in the year 1716 in Den Burg, a little village on the isle of Texel in the Netherlands. This is the one and only Jacob who fits in the timeframe of a lost member of our family. He must have been emigrated to America. Nanning is the son of Jacob Bouwens Kooger who has been born in 1630 in "de Koog", again a little village on the same island. This Jacob gave the name Koger to our family. In those days only a patronime (Bouwens) was used, but Jacob became the mayor of Den Burg and with his second marriage with Marritjen Ariaans he named himself Jacob Bouwens Kooger, which has the meaning in Dutch: I am Jacob, the son of Bouwen, coming from de Koog.
Jacob again is the son of Bouwen Cornelisz Stoelmatter and Engel Cornelis and had another two brothers and one sister. This can be derived from a census held in 1622.
This is the earliest information we can find. Older churchbooks have been lost due to fire and floods or so.
There is much more information about our family, because another familymember (Joke Kamphuis Koger) did a lot of research and has made a book about it with nice pictures and original notes. Unfortunatly hard to read for you I am afraid, because it is in Dutch. So if there is a Dutch speaker left in the States, here is a nice job for you.
I hope you enjoy this information an dif you want to know more, please mail me.
With kind regards,
Peter Koger
