Robert-
I'm amazed at how much you know about your line of the Kogers. I'll print the message to put with my other Koger material. "The History of Henry County Virginia" was first published in 1925, one year before I was born. My great aunt, Judith Parks America Hill, taught shcool 52 years, beginning as having no college training. When she started college, she was told she'd get no higher pay, but she wanted the schooling anyway. The book was recently re-published by Genealogical Publishing Co, Inc. 1001 North Calvert St. Baltimore, MD 21202. There are copies in some libraries, including the Latter Day Saints in Utah.
The book includes 50 families of the time, many of them related to each other: Bassetts, Hairstons, Craigheads, Kogers, Dandridge, Mullins, Matthews, etc.
I paid $30.00 each for copies for children and siblings.
It gives a lot of detail about the area, historically, etc.
My parents are both Virginians, moving to Florida in 1925 a few months before I was born.
There is also a book at the Bassett Library about the Bassetts, which includes my family. My great grandmother was Mary Catherine Bassett Hill (spouse: William Wirt Hill)
She was a sister of the father of the fellows who started Bassett Furniture Co.
An uncle said there were mistakes in the Henry Co book, but I'm sure most of it is accurate. It has been used by others in their research. There is a copy in the Bartow (Polk County Florida) Historical Library. Aunt "Dude" lived in Horsepasture (Preston) outside of Martinsville, VA. I'm sure you want your location secret, but I can give you mine.
1140 W. Marjorie St. Lakeland, FL 33815-4436.
Barbara Coger Irwin has sent me quite a lot of material. I've found other relatives during my search, in Missouri, Utah, Virginia etc.
I wish I had gotten the "bug" for genealogy while my parents were living. Speece, Fischer and Brandt are my mother's relatives.
