I have for all my life realized that our spelling is unique and had passed it off as the response of an overworked immigration official to a gruff German farmer with a heavy accent. Basically the only persons I had found were my immediate and extended family members until a hit last week using a new search engine. This was the Martinus KOHNITZ / Elisabeth MAACK marriage record indexed by the Family Search LDS site. I was actually shocked to see someone I had no prior knowledge of. I am not even positive at this point if they are family.
Martinus KOHNITZ & Elizabeth MAACK,
Roemisch-Katholische (Roman Catholic)
Marriage: 15 Jun 1759 in church records in Muensterberg, Ostpreussen, Preussen

After that I have oral history of a Milton KOHNITZ d. 8-19-1841(unknown else)
and apprently another generation between
Then Fred KOHNITZ (b. Dusseldorf, Germany 10-23-1870, lived near Detroit on farm, d. 8-21-21)
married 10-23-1897 to a Charlotte ( )(b. Canton 3-1-1879 d.9-23-42)
then my grandfather,
Harvey Frederick KOHNITZ Sr (b. Plymouth, Mich. 6-6-1898,d.8-8-1980) Navy radioman in WWI, he stayed in radio.
married
Edna Marie KETCHUM b.3-12-98
They lived in Chicago, Illinois
This is a town name which changed due to border twitches: Konitz,East Prussia to Chojnice, Poland. I am not sure if it is relavant or not at this point.
On the KOHNITZ side I have links to KETCHUM, MORGAN, MURPHY, BARTON, CASE, ERWIN and a scattering of UNKNOWNs
On the maternal (HAYES) side are FEATHERSTON, HARNEY, JOHNSTON,SKISCHALLI (Y), WILSNACK, DURAK and more UNKs of course
My ex-wife is a CLAYTON. I posted on GenForum in a couple of places regarding that line. My daughter is involved or I wouldn't spend as much time on THAT as I do.

That is basically where I sit at this point. I constructed graphic style trees in Adobe Illustrator since that was my software of choice. While that works well for an overview, it doesn't translate to ged format at all. I looked a few years back for geneology software in the attempt to involve my mom. Most of what I found for Mac at the time was clumsy at best. I will be ".PDFing" those charts for anyone who wants them.
