I responded to Annett by personal email, but want to show the email contents here so anyone else who wants to help us gain information about this family can participate:

Annett,

Saw your response to my Genealogy.Com posting concerning David's birthdate. Thanks ever so much for writing.

I've been working to add information to my understanding of DLK's family for some time, but have about reached the end of my sources.

I'd love to correspond with you if you'd like to exchange what we know. My "most wanted" bit of information is the identity of David's mother. If you try for that on the Internet, you'll find at least two names.

-- One is the woman who George Adam III was married to and, presumably, mothered George's first four children. I believe she died before the last two were born. She was Sarah Cromer.

-- Another name that will pop up is Opilichah. I cannot get anyone to give me a source for that one. It's being passed around by some family members and appeared in a book on the Koon family written by a woman who told me she had been given the name, but didn't know by whom. She is now dead, so that avenue of inquiry is now closed. If you enter that name into Ancestry's search engine you'll find one user-submitted tree with source unidentified.

Anyway, I'd be delighted to work with you to try and ferret out his mother's name if you also don't have it and would like to give it a try. In any case, anything I have is yours.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Take care, Paul Wilkes

P.S. Did you say you had all the censuses with George Adam and David in them? If so, I'd like to make sure we've got the same ones for 1850 and 1860.

****

Would like any input anyone would like to make concerning the issue of DLKs mother. Thanks to all who can help!
