Hi Catherine, I'm so glad that the information was helpful. Not sure if you know the geography of the are where these folks lived, but the common thread is the Broad River. So you will find the Coon/Kuhn/Koon family in Newberry, Richland Fairfield and Lexington counties primarily. Lewis' family was closer to Columbia on the Richland side, but there are still plenty of the "K" Koons on the Newberry side, particularly in the area of the town of Pomaria. The part of the family that moved to the Charleston area uses the Kuhn spelling. There are also Koontz and Koonce families in SC. Most of the early deeds will be to Coon or Koon though.

The other problem you will find is that Richland County records burned in 1865 and original documentation is hard to come by. I think you might do well to try the Newberry County records or the Fairfield County records. The area where the Coon family lived has from time to time vascillated between Ridhland and Fairfield.

The deeds that I have are all originals that have been retained by my family and probably don't exist anywhere else. When I found them recently I bought a voice transciption software package and was able to transcribe all of them over the course of two days so that they would be searchable on the internet. I am now in the process of making lists of names mentioned in the documents and capitalizing the names in the documents for easier recognition; but I wanted to get them out to the public as quickly as possible. Happy hunting!
