Like you I am on this sight looking for info on someone. I don't know anything about John James O'Brien in particular. However, I am currently doing a lot of reading on the Korean War and recognize that the 7th ID was part of X (tenth) Corp. that landed in Wonsan harbor on the Eastern Coast of what is now North Korea. The 7th and 3rd ID supplied parimeter defense for the Harbor city. In particular this was important after the 1st Marine Division survived their break out from being surrounded during the three weeks at the end of Nov. and beginning of Dec. 1950 at Chosin Resevior. Most units were thrown together at the last minute - including ROK conscripts who were on the street weeks prior to combat - so I suspect that Mr. O'Brien was involved during combat in Korea. The 7th ID didn't see that much action during the X Corp attack North and the subsequent retreat, however I don't know anything after that. I found the two very good books on this part of the Korean War are "Break Out" and "Korean War Oral History - Pusan to Chosin". I can't remember the authors names right now. Good luck - at least you know his unit. I am looking for my Father-in-Law's history as a Marine, but I have no unit information.
