My mother's father's last name was Korcz, of Polish descent. He was born at the start of W.W.I, but I believe already here in the states. This surname also seems similar to Koretz and could be a direction to try. My parents believe our own last name was shortened to Tyburski during immigration, so name changes are always worth looking into.
