The will of John Stevens of Johnston County, NC (written 17 July 1777) named his wife Mourning and the following children: James, Elizabeth, John, Needham, and Susanna. That being the case, it seems likely that Mourning was, indeed, married to John Stevens before she was married to Willis Wiggins. This raises a couple of questions though. If she already had a daughter named Elizabeth by John Stevens, why was her daughter by Willis Wiggins named Elizabeth? Maybe the first Elizabeth died. Secondly, if Mourning's first husband was a Stevens, is there any proof that Stevens was also her maiden name?
