I feel safe in saying now that Mourning's first husband was John Stevens. It is worthy of note that one of the executors was Edmund Stevens. The earlier Edward Stevens, who wrote his will in 1751 naming a daughter Mourning also had a son named Edmund. Also, one of the witnesses to John's will was Jacob Stevens, another son of Edward. So it may well be that Mourning was a Stevens who married her cousin John - or it may be just coincidental that they had the same surname. The deeds you cite are proof enough that she was John's widow. I had already seen the deed to Bryan Kornegay but not the others. Thank you.
