The website www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellis.html has nothing to do with religion. That is a website just like www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm (mapquest).
Possible that he came thru Philadelphia port.

Since they married in US, do you have their marriage certificate from the church? If they had social security numbers or were naturalized citizen than those forms would have a name of a town. http://ssdi.rootsweb.com

The LDS-Mormons have filmed the church records of several European countries but you need to know the name of a town to order them.

The surname MAKOS does list in Vas megye's phone book.
