Hello Jane,
My family is from Fairport and I recently came back to visit. The Finnish monument that is in Veteran's Park (the one by the lighthouse) there is a family listed on the face of the monument as I guess one of the founding families. The parents, listed as Jacob and Serafia. Serafia is actually Susanna Serafia Myllykoski born in Ylistara Vaasa Finland July 31, 1880. One of my cousins is sending me a family book with much more information. I have so many fond memories of Fairport visiting as a child and you can imagine the sense of pride 1) Seeing the Finnish monument and 2) seeing my family listed on it. There were 7 children of Jacob and Serafia, my father is also listed on the Veteran's Memorial due to his service during WWII. His name was Roland Jalmer Saranpa. It's nice to hear from someone who knows of Fairport. It's a beautiful town. One of my uncles used to work in the lighthouse and I'm also related to Linda Katila.
