Dave and John,

Thanks for the additional info, Dave! I believe I can shed more light on Anna's descent, which has been confusing to this point. References to Anna having any or all of the following descents may all technically be true: Austrian; Hungarian; Polish; Czechoslovakian; Slovakian. Please bear with me. Modern day Slovakia was recently the eastern province of Czechoslovakia. Prior to World War I, Slovakia was the northen part of the country of Hungary. Also at this time, Hungary was an integral part of the Hapsburg's Austria-Hungary Empire (this was the timeframe when Anna immigrated into the US). Southern Poland was part of the now extinct Galicia, which was controlled by the Austria-Hungary Empire.

So, I have 3 hypotheses as to just where Anna came from (that link all of what we have heard about her):
1) Anna came from modern day Slovakia (with the reference to Austria meaning the Austria-Hungary Empire) and had prior Polish ancestry;
2) Anna came from modern day Poland, formerly Galicia, close to the Slovakian border (with the reference to Austria meaning the same as the above, as Galicia did not have much respect as a sovereign nation);
3) Anna came from modern day Slovakia, close to the Polish border. Some of the borders shifted a few miles here and there, between modern day Slovakia and Poland/Galicia from pre-WWI. It is possible that she could have resided in Galicia (i.e., Polish ancestry)when she emigrated, with that same real estate now part of Slovakia.

All of this is conjecture on my part, however, if any is true it could explain alot.

Thanks, Jay
