Amy

KOVACS would be Hungarian/Magyar spelling of
KOVACH/KOWATCH/KOWACH/KOVATCH - English; KOVAC^ - Slovak ~ almost same pronounciation.

Yes, Genieve is not an Magyar first name so someone already took an English/American name after being in US, maybe when naturalized.

Some mistakes were done at the port of departure by a shipping clerk who was copying the information from an ancestor's document on the shipping manifest. So it would seem that the US transcriber transcribed a location incorrectly as Tolesva instead of Tolcsva.

Kovach, John Tolesva 39 1859 1898
Kovacs, Bertolan Tolesva, Hungary 26 1881 1907
Kovacs, Janos Tolesva, Hungary 16 1891 1907
Kovacs, Rosalia Tolesva 18 1887 1905
Kovacs, Erzsebet Tolcsva 22 1884 1906
Kovacs, Janos Tolcsva 15 1891 1906
Kovacs, Janos Tolcsva 44 1857 1901
Kovacs, Katenan Tolcsva 38 1869 1907
Kovacz, Ferencz Tolcsva, Hungary 28 1883 1911
Barnovsky, Miklosh Tolesva 37 1861 1898

Tolcsva, ZemplÚn megye, Hungary

From where do you get the information Genieve Bruinyovski was born on 18 December 1862......

SKY/SKI ending is a Slavic ending.

If the ancestors married in "old country" than the villages would be within 10 miles radius.
