Just starting research, Kovacs or Kovach

I am trying to find information about my grandparents' families. This is what I know.

My grandfather's family was from Budapest. His name was Paul Kovacs (later changed to Kovach in the states), and I think his father's name was Jozeph. I know that before the Russians invaded the family had an office supply type store (my father says it was mostly typewriters). I believe my grandfather was an only child.

My grandmother's parents had three children, including my g'ma. They divorced when she was quite small, and her father later remarried several times. From one of those marriages, my g'ma acquired several step-siblings. I am not sure what her father's occupation, but her mother was a doctor. I also know that my g'ma's older sister became a Szabo.

My grandparents escaped from a camp Christmas Eve of 1956, with their two small boys, Paul and George, and arrived in the U.S. sometime in '57. Before traveling here, they were in Austria for a bit.

If any of this sounds familiar, I would greatly appreciate any information! I know what I have provided is sketchy at best, but I hope that someone out there will be able to provide a few leads!

Thanks!
Ilona
