Krise is definitely German. In my own family history search, I have identified an ancester, Martin Kreis (Kreiss)from Birkenfeld, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. I don't know when the spelling was changed from "Kreis" to "Krise", but my great-grandfather, Daniel, who lived in Clearfield County, PA. used the "Krise" spelling.
