My family has always pronounced it to rhyme with "rice." I used to think it was a respelling of Kreis (pronounced the same), but some research on Ancestry.com has shown me that my gggggrandfather was Georg Greiss and his son Henry changed it to Krise. I remember my great aunt (Olive Krise Bryden) saying something about "we're not related to other people named Krise," which never made sense to me until I discovered the Griess/Krise change.
