Jurgen Friedrich Kroeger born 1834 in Ostby,Germany married in Fahrdorf in 1867 to Anna Ewald born 1848 in Friedrichwiese, Germany (Schleswig-Holstein area)...came to this country when oldest child Hans was nearing age to be drafted into the German army. They considered themselves Danish. Jurgen had fought in the Danish army against Kaiser Wilhelm before the Schleswig-Flensburg-Holstein area was annexed by the Kaiser.
Jurgen and Anna came to America about 1884 with
the following children:
Johannes Friedrich (Hans) Kroeger,b August 13, 1868
Margaretha Maria Kroeger,b May 20, 1870
Maria Christina Kroeger, b August 18, 1872
Heinrich Kroeger b November 11, 1874 ,
Wilhelm Johannes Kroeger, b February 14, 1877
Emma Dorothea Kroeger,b September 10, 1879 Bertha Magdalena Kroeger b May 29, 1882
They settled in Jackson County, Iowa.
I have all their birth certificates. I have visited in Fahrdorf, Germany and seen the church records in person! I don't know where they all went after Iowa but I think some went to North Dakota and further west.If interested, you can email me at
