He may be the John Krofft listed in the 1830 US Census for Tompkins, Delaware County, NY. The household consisted of one male age 30-40, one male 20-30, one male 10-15, one male 5-10, one male under 5, 2 females 20-30, and one female 15-20. Have you run across any documentary support for John and Triphena being the parents of Alpheus Krofft, as circumstantial evidence (age, first name, and Jackson Co., MI, being the place of his first marriage) would suggest?
