Hello,
My Louis Karl Krohn was born 19 May 1847 in Germany, died 29 Jul 1924 in Moline Kansas. He and his friend John Carl Beu were in the German Navy when John made a comment about the Kaiser. Fearing reprisals he and Louis jumped ship while it was docked in New York Harbor around 1865. The two men travelled west working on the railroad until they reached Kansas. Finally settled in Moline Kansas and John Beu sent for his parents John and Elisabeth Baugh Beu, brothers: Carl John, Christian & William John and sister Sophia Carlina. Sister Fredereka had married a Fredrick Scheel and immigrated also. The immigration started from 1870 to 75. I have found them in the US census of 1880 in Kansas listed as Ben's. So far I have been unable to find them in Germany. Supposed to have been in Pommerania and the German grandmother said something about Staysund. Not sure if Louis Krohn and John Carl Beu were friends in Germany or not but Louis did marry John's youngest sister Sophia. Thought I would see if any of this story is familiar to you. My Beu's intermarried not only with Louis Krohn but with the Scheel family.
Thanks,
Doris James, Sacramento CA
