Unknown Krum, born early 1800's, went West

I am looking for a man whose last name was Krum who went west with my greagreatgrandfather Herzog, probably after 1850 and maybe from Iowa. I recently found a note my grandfather wrote abt. 1960 that says his grandfather Herzog went west in the gold strike with his 1/2 brother or brother-in-law Krum. Last heard, they were at Pike's Peak. Mr. Krum made it home, Mr. Herzog did not. Mr. Herzog's name could have been George. He had a daughter named Mary M Herzog who married Frank Janous (Jenorish) and moved south in late 1800's.
Thanks for any info.
