Hi,

I could use some help regarding Col. Thomas H. Murphy who located at Atchison Kansas about 1858. He was landlord of the "The Massasolt House" a hotel in the town of Atchison.

Murphy's wife's name was Eliza and they had 2 children on the 1860 census.

In 1865 he was appointed Superintendent of Indian Affairs at Atchison.

His children 2 & 4 on the census were born in MO, placing the family in Missouri about 1855 - 1858. I need to know where they were located in Missouri.

I have reason to believe Murphy was a mason but have been unable to find out which lodge he was associated with. He may have been associated with a lodge in Missouri before coming to Kansas. I can get someone to check the membership records for Missouri if I can find out which town/lodge to check.

I tried contacting the Grand Lodge of KS but no response.

Any help appreciated. I will be glad to share what info I have.

Many thanks,

Karren A.
