I am seeking anyone who might have information about or be descendants of Heinrich Christian Kuhlmann and his wife, Sophia Tupker/Tuepker Kuhlman.
They were married in Warren Co, Missouri where she lived with her family and possibly also where Henry lived. Their first child, Henrich Lewis was born in 1862 and christened in the Femme Osage church in southern St. Charles Co, MO.
I found this family in the 1870 census of St. Louis Co, MO as follows:
Henry Kulman 35 Mo Gardener
Sophia 33 Mo
Henry 6 Mo
Amelia 2 Mo
Fritz 1 Mo
Note that this family was three households from Sophia's married half sister, Louisa (Tupker) Westenfelt in the 1870 census.
I have searched high and low and can only find little Amelia in the 1880 census....she is living in the August Overfelt household, shown to be a cousin. It would appear she is there to help with the household as Mrs. Overfelt had a three month old and a 1 year old.
I just recently found a database through the St. Louis Gen Society of St. Louis families which included information about this Kuhlman family...associating it with the St. John's Lutheran Church. I will check on possible access to records there, but in the meantime, other information given was as follows from this database:
Emilie Elizabeth b 3/25/1868 (apparently Amelia)
Friedrich Heinrich b 7/17/1869
Maria Louisa Sophia b April 27, 1866
Paul Christian Ludwig b Nov 21, 1876
Wilhelm Johann Heinrich b June 3, 1874
Wilhelmine Auguste Matheilde b Sept 5, 1871
Emilie (Amelia) m August Ponick May 6, 1888
Friedrich m Salomon Mogler and had daughter Mary Caroline
Heinrich m Bertha Bartz
Wilhelm m Polly (Battlefield)Kate
Wilhelmine m Christian Boettcher
Another marriage of a Kuhlman from that church was for a Johanne Kuhlman to a Friedrich Boettcher...so it's possible that Christian and Friedrich Boettcher were brothers, but Johanne was not given as a daughter of Henry and Sophia Kuhlman.
Sophia Tupker Kuhlman was the half sister of my husband's 2nd great grandfather and Louisa Tupker Westenfelt was his 2nd great grandfather's full sister. I have information for anyone who is interested on the Tupker family back into Germany and will share. Eventually, I will write this up into a book, but I am still digging new information at the present time.
