Long time Quesnel resident Helen Kuhn passed away December 30, 2008 at Baker Lodge. She was 89 years old.

Helen came to Quesnel in September 1956 to join her husband Stan who was working for Gardiner Brothers at Horsefly. The first year was tough and Helen wanted to move back to the coast. However, as she became involved in community activities, she came to love Quesnel and never wanted to leave.

Helen was born and raised in Vancouver. She was the middle child in a family of five. She is survived by her older sister, Margaret Hull of Surrey and her younger brother, Huben (Grace) Macfarlane of Adamís River.

Helen married Stan in September 1941, and they had two children; Elizabeth Landry and Cathie Whittaker. Elizabeth passed away in 1980; Stan in 1985, and son-in-law Maurice Landry in 1987.

Helen is survived by her daughter Cathie (Bill) Whittaker of Courtenay and grandchildren; Will of Victoria, Pat (Niki) of New Zealand and Elizabeth of Victoria.

Helen was a tireless worker for a number of community organizations. She was named citizen of the year in 1990 in recognition of her years of service.

Helen never wore black, preferring bright colours, especially pink.

When you think of Helen, think of her in her garden, surrounded by beautiful flowers.

A celebration of Helenís life was held Monday, January 5, 2009 at 2pm at St. Andrewís United Church.

Donations can be made to the Palliative Care Society or the charity of your choice
