Info from my husband's family tree: John Kuhn was born Sept 28, 1826, somewhere in Bavaria, Germany. We haven't found records that specify the city or village of his birth. He emigrated to PA in 1853 received his naturalization certificate on Sept 27, 1860. John operated a livery and ferry service between Millvale and Lawrenceville, near the location of the 40th Street bridge over the Allegheny River. During the Civil War he ferried Union soldiers and equipment across the river. His eldest daughter, Margaret, told of standing on the bank of the river with her mother, watching him. John was married to Anna Mary Schaffer(her surname was spelled differntly on several records) on March 26, 1857, and they had eleven children. Anna was born Aug 8, 1837, in Germany, and came to the Philadelphia emigration in the 1840's. Anna died Dec, 1881, one week after the birth of their last child. John died Nov 11, 1912. The childrens' names were, Margaret, John Phillip, Adam, Henry(my husband's great-grandfather), Peter, Louise Christine, Charles Augustus, Ellis, Mathilda, William Conrad, and Mabel Mary.
I hope that this information helps someone with their family tree. Let me know if I can be of any help. Good luck with your search!
