I am looking for a Mr. Kuhr who died prior to 1880 census. The widow Catherine Detmer Kuhr (census spelling Detnier) born 1843 was living with her father, Gerard Detmer (Detnier) in Cleveland at this time. She was born in Cleveland. In 1880 she had a daughter named Louise Kuh--was age 14 (b circa 1866). Mrs. Kuhr's husband was born in Hanover, so I am thinking he immigrated prior to 1865, probably marrying Catherine Detmer in Cleveland (or possibly Cincinnati--where there were many Detmers and Kleine in Walnut Hills area of Cinncy). I am thinking that Mr. Kuhr may have joined the northerners and fought in the Civil War--otherwise from some disease. Her father Gerard Detmer was a tailor, as was his son and the family he married into in the Cinncy area. "Devout" Catholics. Because your Kuhrs may have homesteaded? in So. Dakota, the Kuhr I am looking at may have come over to the US separately, if related. Good luck. Pat
