I have clarified some of the details of the message that I posted back in 1999. My g grandfather was Melchor P. Culp, born in Columbiana, Ohio, (b.4-27-1844 d. 1-20-1911). His wife was Magdalena Theil, born Germany (b. 2-16-1856 d. 2-01-01). The original spelling of Culp was Kolb. Then it went into Kulp. For some reason some decided to spell their names with a "C".There were a lot of Kulps around the Goshen area that I believe were close relatives of the Culps. I am wondering if my grandfather Melvin Albert Culp was named after another Melvin.
P.S. I found a Franklin Kulp in the 1880 Elkhart census at 11 months of age.
