Hi Dan,

I am going to ask my Aunt Evelyn for more information on her maternal grandparents. I know Carl Kumm was born in 1824 in Germany. I believe it may have been Baden Baden which I believe is near France. I know he married Matilda Friebeck. I am not sure if she was born in Germany. My Aunt said she worked in a hotel in Bangor, Wisconsin and that she was quite a bit younger (17 years?) than Carl. My grandmother, Wilomena Kumm (Minnie) was one of 13 children and was born in 1879. She died in 1931 from complications from burns (farm accident). She was married to Anton Chapiewsky. My mother, Esther Chapiewsky (the oldest of 3 daughters), was a student nurse at the time.

I have pictures of Carl's tombstone and some other Kumm's. The Chapiewsky graves were in the same cemetary. I visited their graves along with my grandparent's graves when I accompanied my mother to her younger sister's funeral about 6 or 7 years ago. My mother passed away in August 1998 at the age of 89. I only have one or two pictures of Minnie and Anton and none of Carl or Matilda. I do have Carl's service record from the Civil War.

Hope to hear from you soon. Email me direct at ampetrell@aol.com

Audrey
