We have in our Ehrharts , one or our William Ehrharts md Mary E. Kunkle. Here's what I have on them:

8.5-William Ehrhart b @9/25/1839, d 5/4/1887, md Mary E. KUNKLE b 10/20/1845, d 8/2/1884- her tombstone at Shrewsbury Lutheran next to his says "Mary E.Kunkle wife of William", (birthdates deduced from tombstone ages.)
1880 census has him 40, Mary E, 33, & son Charles 9. (This is the Wm who was murdered. A 1985 letter to Rev. Kenneth Ehrhart from 81 yr old Miss Annie C. Ehrhart in Chevy Chase MD says her father's father Wm Ehrhart md a Kunkel who d when her (Annie’s) father {not named} was 13.(1884) Then his father Wm (the Kunkle husband) was murdered 3 or 4 years later -1887 -leaving her father an orphan. Wm was a brickmaker & had gone to Baltimore on business, stayed at a hotel & the next day was found murdered. The culprit never found. She has a picture of him working on what she thinks was the 1st Lutheran Church in Shrewsbury, with her young father being the water boy for the workers. Her father moved to Georgetown in the late 1800s where he md her mother who had a bakery next door. Her dad died 1937 & her mother in 1942. Her grandma Mary E.Kunkel Ehrhart had a sister Sarah who md James Bartner, & another sister Veter who never md . A cousin of Miss Annie's still-unnamed-father was Charles Ehrhart who was a horse dealer & had a son she thinks was named Charles. And a lady in the Lutheran Home in Washington in the 1950s was named Georgia Blosser & her sister had md a Sam Ehrhart who (she thinks) was involved in some way in her grandfather's death. Also recalls a brother of this grandfather named (she thinks) Albert who moved to Henderson or Henderson Co KY.
And this Wm Ehrhart had a brother Albert. So has to be this 8.5 William. Don Ehrhart found the newspaper report - 1887 - didn't call it murder! Says found death was from “suffocation from gas”, apparently accidental - no inquest. Body sent to Mrs. S. D. Ehrhart, a cousin at 527 Roberts St, Shrewsbury. William was a builder & contractor & bricklayer. Leaves wife & one son.”

I would like hearing if you have more on this case or this family.
