The information I copied from John's pension application file doesn't indicate where he was born. It only says that he lived in "Linton Township" when entered the service. This would actually be Lynn Township. (Linton was an old name for the nearby town of New Tripoli, so by extension, John was calling the whole township "Linton.")
Lynn Township is near the northwest corner of Lehigh County. Modern-day Lehigh County was only created in 1812; during the Revolutionary War, it was still part of Northampton County.
