I am still trying to fill in missing members of my Kuntz family, and I hope the following information will finally lead to something. I am descended from the daughter Naomi, and I have a couple of cousins who are descended from the daughter Sarah. We havenít had the best of luck with this family so far.
From Sarahís obituary, we do know that there were at least six brothers [three are listed below], and it is quite possible one of the brothers was named William. Sarahís husband was Captain David Haney, who piloted a ship up and down the Mississippi River, and he had a partner named William Kountz.
The various spellings we have noticed so far are Koontz, Kountz, Kuehns, and Kuhns. The following comes from the 1850 Federal Census for Columbiana County, Ohio:
KUNTZ, Philip age 48 Male born in Pennsylvania. [Peddler]
KUNTZ, Rebecca age 50 Female born in Pennsylvania.
KUNTZ, Seamus [sp?] age 23 Male born in Pennsylvania.
KUNTZ, Sarah age 20 Female born in Ohio. [Potter]
KUNTZ, Ellen age 19 Female born in Ohio.
KUNTZ Jeremiah age 17 Male born in Ohio. [Potter]
KUNTZ, Naomi age 10 Male [sic] born in Ohio.
KUNTZ, Benj. age 8 Male born in Ohio.
Naomi should be listed as female. She was my 3G-Grandmother! She named a daughter Lillie REBECCA Criss [my GG-Grandmother] and a son PHILIP Haney Criss. In doing so, she named two of her children after her parents.
Sarah and Naomiís movements took them from Ohio to Indiana to Missouri and finally to Loup City, Nebraska. Both sisters are buried there in Evergreen Cemetery.
