Charles Kunz came to Syracuse with his siblings Andrew and Rosalia. Oral History says 1838 but may have been as late as 1848. He and Andrew were sworn in as citizens in 1852. Charles married Rosalia Fritz also from Baden. They had a pack of kids, Theresa, Charles, Frederick, Rosalia, Elizabeth, Ann Margaret, Josephine, Francesca, and Frank. The oral history says Charles Jr., Ann, and Frank all die young in their 20s. I have found Frederick in the local cemetery, Assumption, he seems to have lived a long life with lots of descendants, but I have yet to contact any.

The Family lived on Basin Street corner of Danforth. Charles was at various times a blacksmith, saloon keeper, grocer, and salt manufacturer in partnership with a John Flach. All of his businesses except salt were at his residence.

Andrew Kunz drops out of the Syracuse Directory listings by 1853. I believe he went to Ohio at that time. I have no proof. I don't know about sister Rosalia Kunz. She came here together with her husband and brothers. I don't know the married surname.

If you are a relative or are researching these people please contact me. I am Carl Kraus. My Father was Herbert Kraus, his mother was Freda Botz, Her mother was Josephine Kunz and her father was Charles Kunz the immigrant. Thanks

Carl
