I am VERY interested in making contact with descendants of this family. I have very old photographs I inherited, one of which is this Arthur Kunz and his sister Hilda as little children. I also have one of Bertha M Ziebell and several group photos from Wisconsin that need help identifying.

This Arthur Kunz was actually Arthur Emil John Kunz born July 30 1891 who had a sister named Hilda J. Kunz born Oct 1894. Arthur Emil John Kunz married Eva Nunke. Both Arthur Kunz and Hilda Kunz were children of Jacob J Kunz and his wife Bertha M. Ziebell. Arthur's father Jacob was a barber. Jacobs father was a saloonkeeper in early Milwaukee: Peter Kunz 1824 Prussia and wife Anna Laubach. Peter and Anna (Laubach) Kunz had seven children:

1. Fred Kunz 1854 Milwaukee,Wisconsin
2. John Kunz 1856 Milwaukee,Wisconsin
3. Peter Kunz, Jr. 1859 Milwaukee, Wisconsin
4. George Kunz 1861 Milwaukee, Wisconsin
5. Amalie/Anna F. Kunz 1866 Milwaukee, Wisconsin
6.Jacob J. Kunz b. 30 Jan 1868 Milwaukee, Wisconsin
7. Charles R. Kunz b. April 1872 Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Peter Kunz and family appear in the 1870 Milwaukee, Wisconsin census with the children listed above. However, by 1880 Peter Kunz (Jacob’s father) has died and his mother Anna Kunz is running the saloon as a ‘widow.’ The 1889 City Directory of Milwaukee, Wisconsin has Jacob J. Kunz and his widowed mother, his one sister Anna, and older brother George Kunz living at 601 Cedar St., Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jacob is working as a barber, his brother George Kunz is listed as a trunk maker, his sister ‘Annie’F. Kunz as a bookkeeper, and his mother Anna Kunz running the saloon. Jacob J. Kunz would have been 21 years old.

The 1890 City Directory for Milwaukee, Wisconsin (printed prior to his marriage that year) has Jacob J. Kunz living still at 601 Cedar St., Milwaukee working as a barber, with his sister Anna F. Kunz still working as a bookkeeper, his brother Charles R. Kunz has joined the household and is not employed, and his brother George Kunz still working as a trunk maker. His mother Anna Kunz, saloon keeper is now living at 157 Huron Street so seems to have moved out from her grown children. This is the year Jacob J. Kunz marries Bertha M. Ziebell, and perhaps this marriage was already in the making and his mother moved out to make room for the new couple, and her new daughter-in-law to run her own household.
