In the middle of 19th century two brothers,
Joseph and Jean KUNTZLER came in Dearborn County, Indiana with their family. They were
native of France, from Basse-Vigneulles (or Niderfillen) in Lorraine near Germany.
Joseph, the elder born in 1798 was a miller in Haute-Vigneulles. He arrived in America in 1848 with his wife Marguerite HIERONIMUS and their 7 children. They had sold their whole property in France

Ten years later his brother Jean came in Indiana in the same place. Jean KUNTZLER born in 1807 was a tavern-keeper and farmer.
With his wife Barbe HIERONIMUS he sold a first part of their property on 30th March 1858 surely for the travel but Jean KUNTZLER
left France alone (proxy 10th April 1858). Barbe, his wife died in 1858.
In June 1862 Jean KUNTZLER then in Lawrencevile, Dearborn County sold the rest of his property in France. His six children minors joined their father probably at this

According to an oral tradition in Basse-Vigneulles 3 sons of Nicolas-Bastien, "Sébastien" the youngest son of Jean KUNTZLER came back in France for enlisting during WWI.
According to a recent mail Jean-Nicolas KUNTZLER or KUNTZEL (in Europa we have 25 different spellings) born in 1846 married
on 19 January 1875 in St Martin's catholic
Church, Yorkville, Indiana Anna Marie EMENAKER. They had 2 children :
Mary Margaret 1876-1952
Pater Nicholas "Nick" 1878-1945
Jean Nicolas died on 31st March 1879 drowned in Ohio during in a flooding. The widow married again Bernard Burkart on 8th May 1882
in Dearborn County.
Joseph and Jean KUNTZLER nad a brother Christian who left in Basse-Vigneulles and
was the last Kuntzler in Basse-Vigneulles.
Kuntzler were present in this village since
1708, year when their ancestor Jean-Guillaume
KUNTZLER bought the mill of Basse-Vigneulles.
Today we are several cousins (some are yet
KONTZLER) French and American and we do researches on this family. We would like know
what happened to these families and maybe find new cousins. Of course the story of Kuntzler since 17th century will be sent to
