George, Yes, we found Joan's Marion, not as Marion Burdette but as Francis Marion Kuykendall. He was born 8 Jun 1852 in Henderson Co. NC (near Asheville) and died 27 Feb 1923 in Fayette Co. KY.He married Julia Barnett b. 03 Jun 1859 and died 01 Jan 1945 in Franklin, IN.I suppose the Barnett is where the Burdette came from.He is the father of your James Elmer born (I have June 1888 in Ill.You have 1886 Bloomington, Ill.I personally do not know which is the correct date.I have thirteen children for Francis Marion and Julia (Barnett) Kuykendall as found on the 1880 and 1900 Garrard Co. KY census. They do have a son Joseph mentioned but not a Marion. However, as there are additional children born after 1900, there may also be a son Marion.I don't know which surname for Julia is correct, Barnett or Curtis. There was a Barnette family living close by in Henderson Co. NC.
Francis Marion is the son of Ezekiel Kuykendall (b. 1830 Habersham Co. Ga. died 14 Feb 1865 Petersburg, VA married 26 Dec 1850 Henderson Co. NC by Rev. Joseph Kuykendall to Rachel Kuykendall b. 1835 Buncombe (Now Henderson) Co. NC died after 1880 Garrard Co. KY census where she is listed as a widow with her daughter Julia, her son Marion and his wife and son Joseph.Rachel is the daughter of Robert and Mary (Sentelle) Kuykendall.Robert is the brother of Rev. Joseph Kuykendall.Robert and his wife went to Garrard Co. KY.Rachel drew a widow's pension from her husband civil war service.Rachel left Henderson Co. NC after her husband died and went to Madison Co. NC by 1870 and then on to Garrard Co. KY by 1880.Same route as he parents took.
Ezekiel is the son of Joseph Harden Kuykendall and wife Rebecca Waldrop. There are many postings on this website for this family.Take a look at them.
Joseph Harden Kuykendall is the son of James and Mary (Hambright?) Kuykendall, son of old Abraham (1719-1812).
Rev. Joseph and his brother Robert are son of Jacob and Nancy (Thomas) Kuykendall, son of old Abraham (1719-1812).
I hope this gets you past the brick wall.
Good luckBetty K Price
