James and Mary (Hambright?) Kuykendall
The more time I have to study individual families, i notice overlooked bits of information.Such is the case with the children of James Kuykendall born ca 1756 in Anson Co. NC, died after the 1830 census and before 24 Sep 1832 in Habersham Co. GA.He married Mary, who surname has not been proven but used as "Hambright" to help identify him as son of old Abraham and Elizabeth (Burleson?) Kuykendall of Buncombe (now Henderson) Co. NC.The ? is used to signify the surname not proven.
Now, with that much said,I paid a little more attention to the 1800 Buncombe Co. NC census for James Kuykendall, page 175.In particular, the sons:
In 1800 there of two males under 10 (1790/1800), two males 10/15 (1785/1790)one male 15/25 (1775/1785) and one male 26/45 (1755/1775). (James Kuykendall born ca 1756)
I know the birthdates for the following sons:Abraham 1772;
Peter 1789; James, Jr. 1794, Joseph Harden 1800.These are from census records.
The two males under 10 James, Jr. 1794 and Joseph H. 1800.
The two males 10/15:I know of only one: Peter 1789.
The one male 15/25: Abraham 1772.
Does anyone know the name of the other son age 10/15?
James went to Habersham Co. Georgia in 1826 based on deeds in Buncombe Co. NCand is found on the 1830 Habersham Co. Ga. census page 63 as James Kurkindal.His son Joseph H. is listed also on page 63 as Joseph H. Kurkindal age 20/30 (1800/1810). The daughter Mary and her husband Rev.Josep J. Byers was listd on page 63 as Joseph Biers age 50/60 and Mary age 40/50 (1760/1770) .Son Abraham is found as Abraham Curkindol page 49 age 40/50(1780/1790; son Peter is found as Peter Curkindal age 40/50 (1780/1790) page 00.son Jesse is found as Jesse Curkindal page 25 age 30/40 (1790/1800).I did not find James, Jr. in 1830.Where was he?Is it possible once again that another Kuykendall lost count of his age.
Look at James's son Abraham supposedly born 1772 and lived to be 100.The 1800 census makes him about ten years younger (1782?), just like his grandfather.I had noticed the large gap between him, Abraham, and his sister Mary 1783and brother Peter 1789.Comments?
I think that I have just answered my own question.Jesse would be the other son 10/15 (1785/1790) on the 1800 census. Between the two census records, that places his date of birth ca 1790.Comments?
Based on other records,According to the list of those who were the fortunate drawers in the 1832 Gold Lottery of Georgia,Edmund Kuykendall, James Kuykendall and Jesse Kuykendall (Jesse was listed as a minor) were named.If Jesse was a minor in 1832, he was under the age of 18, meaning he was born between 1814 and 1832.I think I have answered my own question again. James's son Abraham had sons James born 1805. Edmund born 1814 and Jesse born 1816 (he would have been a minor).
I was not able to locate James's son Abraham on the 1850 census.Any idea how it is listed?
I think I will end this since I've said all that.
Thanks.
