Barbara King, are you the same lady as Barbara Kreger who posted the original inquiry about Mary Almira Kuykendall?
I have a few questions regarding the sources you have furnished.. Perhaps you know the answers.
Do you know the connection of the James Lafayette Brown Family to the Kuykendall family?
Under the heaading THE KUYKENDALL FAMILYthird and fourth paragraph in which is mentioned that Peter Kuykendall moved his family to north of Alma leaving his parents and all of his family in Carolina, except his own family (of which my mother's mother was a part) and a brother James who was also of the party.
Peter's parents James and Rebecca (Norton) Kuykendall, Jr. left North Carolina and were in Habersham Co. GA. before 1830 where James, Sen. died in 1832.Peter at age 16 (born 1814) would have been in Georgia in 1830 with his parents, James Kuykendall, Jr.The part about him leaving his parents and all of his family in Carolina can be overlooked because of his age so I have no problem with that.
In the fourth paragraph, Before leaving Carolina, his (Peter's) first children were born, among them my maternal grandmother Mary M. who was born (in) Carolina in 1821.
Peter married in 1833 in Knox Co. Indiana to Martha Teague.Unless he had a previous marriage, Mary M. born 1821 could not be his daughter.Nor do I think that Mary Almira Kuykendall born 1822 would be the daughter of Peter Kuykendall born 1814.I think that she could possibly be his sister, d/o James and Rebecca (Norton) Kuykendall. She would fit into their family. This also helps to confirm the original statement by Barbara Kreger.
The next part about the McLaughlin Family from Goodspeed History. The statment "Mrs. McLaughlin (Mary A. Kuykendall) was born in Indiana and reared in Arkansas" presents a question. If this is Mary Almira, her parents James and Rebecca (Norton) Kuykendall, Jr. in 1822 was still in Buncombe Co. NC from where the family of James Sr. left about 1827 for Habersham Co. GA.There is no record of James, Jr. going to Indiana.James, Jr. died in Crawford Co. AR in 1846 and Rebecca died there in 1866.
The part after the McLaughter Goodspeed History, about the Northwestern Arkansas History, Peter Kuykendall seems to be in order and I have no questions about Peter. It was educational to learn that "opposite Memphis, TN is now Arkansas."I have learned a lot obout our Country's geography while researching family movement.
I appreciate your taking the time to post all of this history as you have found it and I am sure it will be helpful to the descendants.
Thank you.
