I'm surprised you haven't received numerous replies to your post!Thank you for sharing this very interesting and logical theory as to the origin of the Kuykendall/Kirkendall/etc name, as well as thedescription of old Wageningen.I've forwarded your message to my adult children and to my Kirkendall brothers-in-law; also posted a note at the Kirkendall board suggesting everyone read your message.Kirkendalls, after all, are equally (proven in the case of my family)connected to that early immigrant ancestor.
I have one question. Was the connecting link between Kerk and dall - that is, the "en" - discussed? It seems to me, assuming the Old Dutch meaning of en was "in", that this word would place the church itself in the valley or dall.Or perhaps all property belonging to the church was considered an actual part of the church... just curious as to whether this was explained.Again, thank you!Helen Kirkendall
