In researching my Cornwell family, I have recently come across an interesting connection to the McKee/McKay and Leeth/Leath families in Jefferson County, Kentucky, early 1800s. Specifically, I am trying to determine whether someone can shed light on the following information found in the Cornwell file at the Stevens Library in Salem Indiana: Marriage Register Jefferson County Kentucky Court House, Louisville, Kentucky. Book 1 - Feb. 16, 1784 to May 10, 1842. Arterburn, William Jr. of lawful age of 21 yrs. Enos McKie who heard his parents say so. Presley Art. Witt. Leeth, Nancy m. 7-10-1815. Witt: Peter Cornwell, guardian Peter Cornwell’s step daughter Peter Cornwell was my 3rd great-grandfather and William Arterburn (father of the William who married Nancy Leeth) was my 4th great grandfather. So, of course, I am very interested in determining why Peter Cornwell would have been guardian of Nancy Leeth - and how he possibly could have been her stepfather. This is my understanding of the marriages of the children of William Arterburn and Nancy Johnson: William Arterburn m. 1. Rachel Smoot 2. Nancy Leeth in 1815 Elizabeth Arterburn m. 1. Branham 2. Peter Cornwell in 1802 Sarah Sally Arterburn m. Enos McKee Presley Arterburn m. Sally Netherton Elijah Arterburn m. Mary Polly Booker Accordingly, I am unsure why Peter Cornwell would have been the guardian of Nancy Leeth in 1815. If anyone has any information, I would greatly appreciate your sharing it with me. Thank you. Notify Administrator about this message?
