Kyser Family Genealogy Forum

Hi, Mary--
I was doing census searches for my Kyser ancestors and ran across John F. Kyser. In the 1860 census for Ohio, Noble Co., Elk Twp., in the household of Samuel and Maria Kyser, John F. Kyser age 8 (born ca. 1852) was one of their 9 children (at the time; they had 4 more by 1870). Samuel's family is still in the same area for the 1870 census, but John F. is no longer living at home. Earlier, in the 1850 census Samuel's family was in Monroe County, Ohio, in Franklin Twp. I suspect that Samuel, born ca. 1818, was the brother of my ggg-grandmother Martha Jane Kyser Allen, born 1812, of Monroe Co., Ohio. If he is her brother, then Samuel's father and John F.'s grandfather was George Kyser, born 1782 in Pennsylvania, probably Lycoming Co. George's first wife, the mother of Martha Jane (and Samuel) was named Martha, according to my granddad's records. His second wife was Susan, probably Susannah Winland, daughter of Jacob Winland of Lycoming Co., PA. There were other Kyser/Keyser/Keiser/Kiser/Kysor/Kaiser families in Monroe County, though, so I need to find an obituary of one of the siblings in order to prove the relationship. (Early courthouse records lost to fire...) So if you follow up on this and find anything useful, please post it here or e-mail me! Good luck!
