hello sfjd, i think kyte is english rather than irish. to tell a tale about the ambrose kyte, the victorian politician here in melbourne about 1850 odd. his full name was ambrose spencer kyte. a direct descendent, julie kyte of scarborough, a suburb of perth, western australia told me last year.
ambrose sponsored the burke and wills expedition,a thousand pounds, alot of money then, which set out from melbourne about 1855 and attempted to reach the northern coastlineof carpentaria, queensland, roughly akin to going from florida to maine. a final group of four including the two leaders, burke and wills.
they got there but these two and anotherdied on the return. only one survived. however it was not altruism that made ambrose sponsor the expedition rather he fancied the lady friend of burke and ambrose saw the expedition the ideal way of getting burke out of town for awhile. he did a good job as he never returned. i will let you know if i find anything more.
