'THE BOYS ARE MARCHING'
* * * * * * * * *
There Were Many Who Marched to the Music of Long Ago Under the Colors of Old Glory.
Today (Thursday) forty-three years ago occurred the battle of Shiloh. The Association of Shiloh Veterans residing in Clarke and Lucas Counties observed the day in Chariton. Many veterans of the war in general were present and participated in the exercises. The forenoon was taken up in meeting the visiting comrades and escorting them to headquarters. There is gladness in these soldier gatherings and yet a degree of sadness when the thinning ranks leave some comrade on earth no more to clasp hands and exchange greetings:
"On fame's eternal camping ground
Their tents are spread,
While glory keeps with solemn round
The bivouac of the dead."
