Simon Marchand, the founder of the Marchand family in Ascension Par. in the early 1800s, was, I believe, born in New Orleans according to the New Orleans Diocese Catholic Church volumes. He was born in the year 1800. If I am correct the family originated in Versailles, France, and came directly to New Orleans from France. Therefore they were not "Cajun".
