According to family records Joseph Hamilton, son of William Hamilton and Lise Ritter (who had moved from St. Landry Parish to the area between Sugartown and Grant, LA by 1850) married Sophese Docille Desano Ortego around 1851. At the time this was the old Imperial Cacasieu Parish, but now would be Allen or Beauregard parishes. In 1860 Joseph and Sophese Hamilton were living near Grant,LA with their 1st 3 children; John, Edvise, and Warren. Family records indicate that the children of Joseph Hamilton and Sophese Docille Desano Ortego were: John Adam Hamilton b. 30 Oct. 1854, old Calcasieu Parish, m. Martha Garlington 4 Jan. 1877, d. 13 Dec. 1916, buried in Hamilton Cemetery in Grant, LA Edvise or Evia "Sis" Hamilton, b. about 1856, m. Darlin L. Smith Warren Bunyan "Burn" Hamilton, b. 24 July 1858, old Calcasieu Parish, married mary Frances "Fannie" Martin, died 30 Dec. 1937, buried Shiloh Cemetery in Beauregard Parish, LA Louise Phrobian "Ferb" Hamilton, b. 1860/1861, m. Tom Wooley, d. 1935, buried in Palestine Cemetery in Grant, LA Rebecca Hamilton b. about 1861 Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Hamilton b. about 1862, never married, d. about 1884 Abraham Lincoln "Yank" Hamilton b. Feb. 1863, d. about 1883, m. Mary F. Houston Mary Hamilton b. about 1865 Christopher Columbus "Lum" Hamilton b. 1868, m. Sarah Ann Florence Yawn Sophese died sometime in the late 1860s and Joseph Hamilton then married Sarah Elizabeth Sweet. I am seeking the parents of Sophese Docille Desano Ortego. Information from Father Hebert's Southwest Louisiana Records suggests that they may have been Joseph Dorsineau Ortego who married Celise/Cephise/Sophese Landreneau 21 May 1833 in Opelousas,LA. They had a daughter, Celise (Sophese?) Ortego b. 28 June 1834 who was baptized in Opelousas. They also had a son named Dorsino born in 1837 and baptized in Opelousas. Cephalise Landreneau (who I think was the wife of Joseph Dorsineau Ortego and mother of Sophese Ortego) died 6 Nov. 1889 at age 79 years (Ville Platte church, v.1, p. 117). This date at death coordinates closely with her age listed as 22 at the time of her 1833 marriage. The records for the old Imperial Calcasieu Parish, LA were lost in a fire in the courthouse in Lake Charles in 1910. Old Imperial Calcasieu covered a much larger area before it was broken up into Allen, Beauregard, and other parishes. I am looking for descendants of the above family who may have information that can help me verify the parents of Sophese Ortego and fill in other missing pieces. Please contact me if you have further information. Notify Administrator about this message?
