I'm searching for information about George W. Pierce, who lived in Caldwell Parish LA as of the 1870 US census. He and his wife, M.J., took into their household my 2G-grandmother, Isabelle Bannister, and her brother, Samuel Houston Bannister, sometime after the death of their parents, Richard Bannister and Julia Ann Caroline Olds.
The 1870 census record shows George as being age 33 and the head of the household (dwelling #15, family #18) consisting of wife M.J. (age 25), their children Pierce (7) and Bliss (5), Isabelle (17) and Samuel (13). George's occupation is listed as being a steamboat captain.
I've not yet located a record of a formal adoption of the Bannister children. Their parents were married in 1849 in Caldwell Parish and I'm assuming that the Bannister family probably lived in Caldwell Parish through the death of the parents (dates unknown). I'm interested in determining whether there is a family connection between Richard Bannister, Julia Olds and the Pierces, which might explain why the Pierces adopted the Bannister children. Unfortunately I don't yet know M.J. Pierce's maiden name.
Isabelle was married first to Patterson Lawrence on 13 Feb 1873 in Catahoula Parish LA, before she married my 2G-grandfather, William John Valentine/Volentine. The marriage license indicates that they were married at the home of "Claib. Pierce". I'm trying to determine if there is a family connection between Claib. and George--they possibly could be brothers.
