I've searched the net and can't find an answer to my question: "Did East Baton Rouge Parish used to be called Vernon Parish?" My parents were married at the home of my grandmother on Edgewood Drive in Baton Rouge in 1945. On their marriage certificate, it states that the marriage was performed by a priest from Sacred Heart Church in Baton Rouge, and it lists the parish name as Vernon. Can someone explain this? Thank you!
